question Barrier, jockey or track? What do you look at first?

Been getting a bit more into the nags lately and I keep changing what I focus on first. One week I’m staring at barriers, next week I’m talking myself into track condition, then I end up following a jockey combo and chucking the rest out the window...

Just curious how you lot actually narrow a race down when the field’s a bit messy. Are you big on speed maps, recent runs, class drop, trial replays, market moves, whatever? I feel like there’s heaps of info now and half the battle is knowing what matters and what’s just noise.

Not chasing miracle winners or anything, just keen to hear how other punters go about it, especially for the Saturday arvo meetings. If you’ve got a basic routine before placing a bet, post it up mate.

same here mate, if I stare at too much stuff I end up talking myself into rubbish. I keep it dead simple now: map the race first, find one that should get a soft run, then check if the last start had excuses. If I need five extra reasons after that, I just leave it alone.
