I gave the morning racing mail a decent run this past week across a few meetings and I’m a bit split on it... not because the picks were terrible, more because half the value was gone by the time most punters would’ve seen them. A few of the better ones were smashed in early, and by jump time you were taking a skinny quote on a horse that was probably fair at best.
The stuff I rate is when the tip comes with actual reasoning — map, tempo, track pattern, whether the horse is second-up and ready, that sort of gear. If it’s just “best bet race 6” with no meat on it, I may as well chuck a dart. Been around this game long enough to know a winner on paper means bugger all if the price is wrong.
What did stand out though, the sharper previews were onto the right races to play in. Not necessarily landing every winner, but they were steering clear of the messy maidens and those 14-horse lottery jobs. That alone saves a bit of pain. I’d rather back one solid opinion at $4.50 than tail five popular picks that get backed off the board and run like busted arse.
Curious what you lot are following lately. Are you finding the daily stuff useful, or is it mostly just market-chasing now? Keen to hear if anyone’s got a source that still finds proper value before the whole country piles in.
