question Morning mail's gone a bit lazy lately — anyone found a decent read?

Been through a few of the race-day tip pages again this morning and honestly a lot of it feels pretty phoned in now. Same 3 favs in every feature, no real map work, no mention of track pattern, and half of them look like they were chucked up before scratchings. If you've been around the horses a while you can spot the copy-and-paste stuff a mile off.

What I still rate is the stuff that gives you something usable — why a horse maps soft, whether it's up in trip at the right time, jockey switch actually meaning something, stable intent, that sort of gear. Even if I don't back their top pick, I can work with it. The weak ones are just price, form figures, done. Cheers for nothing.

For me the best race-day reads are usually the ones that don't try to tip every bloody race like they're forced to have an opinion. Give me 3 or 4 proper plays, maybe a roughie that's got a case, and a quick note on how the track's been playing in the arvo. That's heaps more useful than a full card of surface-level selections.

Keen to hear what everyone else is actually using now. You blokes following a tipster, stable mail service, form site, or just doing your own prices and ignoring the noise? If there's a decent source still putting up proper racing thoughts instead of fluff, chuck it in here.

That's pretty much how I use form reads now. I mark a shortlist early, then leave the actual bet till I've seen a race or two and the scratchings settle. If the write-up doesn't tell me where the horse lands or what kind of run it needs, I just treat it as content, not a play.
