Been mucking around with a few local racing tipsters lately, mostly for the Saturday metro stuff, and I’m still not sure what’s actually worth following and what’s just fancy write-ups with a hot streak chucked on top.
Tried a mix of free stuff on X/YouTube and a couple of paid ones that send out best bets and quaddie thoughts. Some of them sound switched on pre-race, especially when they’re talking track pattern, trials, stable intent and all that... then the actual results are pretty ordinary by the end of the arvo. Not even expecting miracle winners every meeting, just something with a bit of edge and not the same obvious $3 favourite everyone already found.
The ones I’ve liked most so far are the people who explain why they’re on a horse instead of just dropping tips with no reasoning. If someone can tell me why they’re happy to back one second-up from a soft draw at Randwick or why they’re binning a short one at Flemington, I’m way more keen. The copy-paste “best value on the card” stuff does my head in.
Curious what you lot reckon — do you follow anyone properly for racing here, paid or free? Happy to hear names, or even just the type of form source you rate most. Sectionals, trial watchers, speed maps, old-school form guys, whatever. Starting to think a lot of tip services are just good at marketing to mug punters, but maybe I’m following the wrong ones lol.
