Been messing around with a few free race preview pages and form emails the last month, mostly on the Saturday metro meetings. Was half expecting the usual fluff, but a couple actually helped me cut out some silly bets. The ones with speed maps and a quick note on tempo felt way more useful than the old "best bet / next best" stuff.
What didn’t do much for me was the really generic write-ups where every second runner is "a chance". Cheers mate, that narrows it down heaps 😂 If I’m reading something before the first at Randwick or Flemington, I wanna know why a runner maps well, whether the stable’s going alright, if the track pattern might get weird later in the arvo... even one proper angle is better than five vague lines.
I’m still not sold on paying for any subscription services though. Free stuff plus doing my own form seems enough for now, but maybe I’m missing a ripper somewhere. Keen to hear what you lot actually use — ratings, sectional stuff, stable mail, old-school form guide, whatever. Anything that’s genuinely helped your punting, or is most of it just noise?
