question Track updates, scratchings and late mail — what’s actually useful now?

Feels like the way people get race-day info has shifted a fair bit lately. Early markets are moving quicker, track ratings can change after a bit of arvo weather, and then you’ve got late jockey swaps and scratchings flying around right before the jump.

I’m seeing more punters talk about sectionals, speed maps and trial replays now, while plenty still stick with the usual tipsters, stable whispers or just follow the market. Saturday metro meetings get heaps of coverage, but once you dip into provincial and country cards the info can dry up pretty fast.

Keen to hear what everyone reckons is actually worth checking these days before having a punt. Not after magic winners or anything, just what kind of form info has been most useful for you lately — ratings, track bias notes, blackbook runners, market moves, yard mail, whatever you’re using.

If you mainly follow one state, chuck that in too. NSW, VIC, QLD and the rest can all play a bit differently, and what works in one spot isn’t always much chop somewhere else. Thought it’d be handy to get a proper thread going on it.

Mostly VIC for me, and I reckon trainer intent tells you more than half the noisy stuff people chase. If they keep one at the same trip, place it back in a winnable race and you can forgive the last run, that gets my attention straight away. I keep little notes on stables that actually place them to win instead of just giving them a hitout.
