question What’s everyone liking on the card this arvo?

Just seeing what people are keen on for the races today. Not after miracle 50/1 shots or anything, more interested in the runners people genuinely reckon are well placed based on track, barrier, jockey, map etc.

If you’ve got a few you’re backing, chuck them in here with a quick reason. Could be metro, provincials, whatever meeting you’re following. I always find it more useful when someone says why they like one rather than just dropping the number and disappearing.

Also curious if anyone’s changing their bets late off scratchings or track downgrades. A few meetings can play completely different once the weather shifts, so any decent late mail is handy. Cheers mates.

Fair enough mate. Are you mostly looking for straight win bets, or are you happy to play each way if the map looks soft? Changes what I’d be keen on throwing in here.

My filter is pretty plain on days like this: I only want runners that can settle handy without burning too much early. If one needs a perfect run from back in the pack I usually leave it, even if the form stack looks good on paper.

I wouldn't lock that in too early tbh. A lot of meetings look like they'll suit those on speed, then after a race or two you can see it's not that simple and the wider lanes are where the momentum is. I wait and see before leaning too hard on map alone.

How quick do you switch though if you see that happening? Is it more about horses not making ground, or when the jockeys start steering away from the rail and you know something's up?

Big one for me is redoing the tempo after scratchings, not just glancing at barriers again. If a couple of go-forward types come out, the whole race can turn and something that looked buried suddenly gets the gun run. If the weather flips later in the arvo I do the same thing again.
