question Forget staking plans — is the edge just finding the wrong price?

Bit of a rant and a question... I keep seeing people bang on about staking systems like that's the magic fix, but I honestly reckon if the odds are trash then no bankroll trick is gonna save you. Doubling, level stakes, percentage staking, whatever — if you're taking bad numbers, you're just dressing it up.

The only thing that’s ever made proper sense to me is nabbing a price that’s better than what it should be. Sounds dead simple until you actually try doing it for real and not just talking yourself into every bet because it "looks big". That’s where I get a bit stuck. Half the time I think I’ve found a juicy one, then the market drifts and I’m sitting there feeling like a drongo.

So how are you lot actually judging it? Making your own prices? Just line shopping across books? Following early movement? Waiting for teams/news and pouncing late? I’m keen to hear from anyone who does this seriously, especially on AFL/NRL, because those markets can be bloody sharp. Feels like the obvious stuff gets smashed quick.

Also do you reckon this angle still works for regular punters, or is it mostly a grind now unless you're deep into stats and modelling? I’m pretty opinionated on this one tbh — I think most "systems" are fluff compared to taking overs, but maybe I’m missing something. Chuck in your thoughts.

I’m a bit cynical about reading too much into market moves, mate. Plenty of times a drift is just books covering themselves or reacting to news, not some secret signal you were wrong. If the only reason a bet was good is “it moved later”, I usually reckon that’s pretty thin.
