Had a chat with a mate who wants to give poker a proper crack and I realised how much random stuff gets thrown at new players straight away. Pot odds, ranges, bankroll chat, tells, bluffs, all that jazz... bit much when you barely know what hands are worth playing.
If you were trying to help someone not torch their money in the first few sessions, what would you actually focus on first? I kinda reckon stuff like playing fewer hands, paying attention to position, and not getting stubborn with rubbish cards probably matters more early than trying to pull off fancy hero plays.
Curious what you blokes reckon though. If someone was just starting, what are the first couple of habits or rules you'd drill into them? And what stuff do people learn way too early that just confuses them?
