Been tightening things up lately and trying a much more simple approach instead of getting fancy every second hand. Thought I’d chuck this up because the boring stuff has honestly done more for me than any big-brain move ever did.
Main changes were playing way fewer hands out of rubbish spots, paying a lot more attention to position, and betting for value instead of trying to bluff every bloke off the pot. At the lower stakes especially, that last bit feels massive. People call heaps, so the cute stuff hasn’t really been worth it for me. If I’ve got a hand, I bet it. If I’m out of position with trash, I just let it go and wait.
The other thing that cleaned things up was sizing. I used to be all over the shop depending on how I felt in the moment. Now I’m keeping opens and c-bets a lot more consistent, and it makes later streets way less messy. Same with bankroll stuff too — not exciting, but it stops those spewy sessions where one bad arvo turns into a proper disaster.
Not saying this is some magic fix, just that the straightforward style has felt more solid and easier to stick with. Keen to hear what other people reckon actually made the biggest difference once they stopped winging it a bit. Was it hand selection, position, fold discipline, reading player types... or something else?
