Bit of a rant, but the flood of strategy content lately is doing my head in. Feels like every second clip or thread is some bloke firing off fancy preflop charts and saying you have to defend this combo or mix that combo, and half the table ends up trying to play like a high roller in a $1/$2 game at the pub.
I get why it’s popular now, especially with all the hand breakdown vids and coaching clips popping up everywhere, but heaps of it has zero context. Live low stakes is still full of people overcalling, chasing rubbish and paying off way too light, yet the advice getting pushed is all solver chat and weird balance stuff. Mate... just value bet your good hands, stop punting from bad position, and fold when the nittiest bloke at the table wakes up on the river. That alone prints more than half the trendy nonsense getting shared.
What really bugs me is newer players copping the idea that simple fundamentals are somehow outdated. They’re not. If anything, people are skipping the boring stuff because it’s not sexy content. Bankroll discipline, table selection, knowing who not to bluff, sizing for the actual player in front of you - that’s the gear that keeps you alive.
Curious if anyone else reckons the current wave of advice is overcomplicating the game for regular punters, or if I’m just being a grumpy bastard about it. What stuff are you seeing lately that’s actually useful, and what stuff is pure noise?
