question What finally made hold’em click for you?

I’ve been mucking around with low-stakes hold’em for a while and I swear half the battle is just unlearning the dumb stuff you do when you’re keen to play every decent-looking hand. Used to think being aggressive meant firing at everything... turns out a lot of the time I was just punting chips for no reason.

Lately the biggest thing helping me is position. Sounds basic as, I know, but once I stopped getting sticky out of position and quit calling raises with rubbish just because I was bored, my results got a fair bit less ugly. Still spew a stack here and there chasing when I should just let it go, so not pretending I’ve cracked it or anything.

Curious what was the one thing that made the biggest difference for you lot? Reading bet sizes better, folding more, value betting thinner, not bluffing the calling stations, managing tilt after a bad river... whatever it was. Keen to hear the stuff that actually helped, not the fancy theory chat you read once and forget by the next arvo session.

If you’ve got one simple rule you keep coming back to at the tables, chuck it in here mate.

nah, I reckon position gets talked up a bit too much at the tiny stakes. It matters, sure, but the biggest jump for me was just quitting sessions when my head was cooked. You can do all the right stuff preflop and still donate heaps once you start trying to win back every bad river.
