Bit of a rant, but I reckon this is where heaps of players absolutely torch chips in hold'em. They flop top pair, decent kicker, and suddenly it's wedding vows. Doesn't matter if the board is wet as, doesn't matter if the nitty bloke in seat 4 has check-raised turn after doing bugger all for an hour... nah, apparently one pair is enough to go broke with.
I just don't buy the whole "you have to make them pay" thing when the texture is screaming trouble. Especially low-stakes games, live or online, people love talking themselves into a hero stack-off when it's really just stubbornness. Feels like half the leaks at those tables come from overvaluing hands that look pretty preflop and go ugly fast once the action kicks off.
Curious where everyone else draws the line here. Are you folding top pair way more often than most people, or do you think that's too nitty? And what about top pair top kicker on a messy board with draws everywhere... are you happy piling it in, or are you tapping the brakes unless you've got reads?
Keen to hear some proper opinions, not the usual "depends" and move on. Cash game mindset, tournament mindset, pub game punters, whatever — chuck it in. I reckon a lot of people would save themselves a bloody fortune if they learned to let one-pair hands go.
