question What makes you trust a new bookie these days?

Keen to hear how everyone here judges a betting site before signing up. There are that many around now and half of them look the same at first glance, so I usually end up digging through forum posts before I chuck any money in.

The main stuff I look at is pretty basic but it saves headaches later - withdrawal speed, whether they ask for ID straight away or only once you win, how the odds stack up on NRL/AFL compared to the bigger names, and if the app goes to water during live markets. I also check the bonus terms pretty closely now because some of them are a bloody mess once you read the fine print.

Another one for me is limits. A site can seem fine until you try to get a decent bet on and suddenly you're capped at peanuts. Same with support... if something goes wrong on a Saturday arvo, I want to know there's an actual human there and not just canned replies.

So what are your green flags and red flags with a new bookie? Are there a couple of sites you reckon are consistently solid, or do you mostly go off other punters' experiences before joining?

One thing I started checking after getting burnt once is the responsible gambling stuff. If a bookie makes it a pain to set deposit limits or take a break, I bail straight away. Sounds boring compared to odds and promos but it tells you a lot about how they run things tbh. Keen to know if anyone else looks at that first or if that's just me being paranoid now lol
