question Martingale on pokies is rubbish — flat stake makes more sense

Bit of a blunt one, but I reckon most of the fancy staking systems people talk up for pokies are just lipstick on the same pig. I gave a few of them a proper run over the last couple months — doubling after a loss, tiny step-ups after a win, even that "recover it next spin" mindset — and the result was basically me burning through the bankroll faster while pretending I was being disciplined.

The worst for me was the double-up stuff. Looks clever for about 10 minutes, then you hit one cold patch and suddenly your next spin size is stupid. That escalates so bloody quick on slots it stops being fun and starts feeling like you're in a fight with the machine. Not keen. I don't care how tidy it looks on paper, pokies don't owe you a recovery spin.

Flat staking has been way less dramatic for me. Not sexy, not some ripper secret system, just pick an amount you can cop losing and stick to it. If I'm gonna change anything, it's usually after a decent hit where I might chuck a few bigger spins for a laugh, but even that can get away from you if you're not careful. Most of these "systems" feel more like bankroll management dressed up as edge.

Curious what the rest of you lot actually use though. Anyone here genuinely stick by a progression system on pokies and feel like it helps, or do you reckon it's mostly head noise and false control like I do?

Yep, same here. Once I start fiddling with the spin size mid-session I can talk myself into any dumb idea, and that's usually when the bankroll cops it. The only thing that's actually helped me is setting a rough stop point before I start, sometimes a time limit too. Reckon that does more for me than any progression thing. Anyone else play like that or just wing it?
