question Bit of a weird trend lately: every starter poker vid says “play more hands”

Anyone else seeing this lately? Feels like every clip or guide aimed at brand new poker players is pushing the same flashy stuff — get involved more, apply pressure, make big reads, chuck in the bluff. Reckon that’s bloody ordinary advice for someone who still isn’t fully across position or pot odds.

What new players usually need is the boring gear first. Fold more junk. Stop limping rubbish. Learn why seat position matters. Pay attention to bet sizing. And maybe don’t try some hero move off a 20-second reel from a bloke with sunnies on indoors. The stuff getting pushed right now seems built for views, not for actually helping someone stop punting their stack.

If a mate asked you where to start, what would you tell them first? Tighten up pre-flop? Learn one simple approach and stick to it? Just watch the table and shut up for an hour? Keen to hear what actually worked for real people, because a lot of the “advice” floating around lately looks cooked to me.

Yeah, this is the bit people skip. What helped me early was literally pausing before every decision and asking two things: where am I sitting, and how many players are left to act. Sounds basic but it stops a lot of auto-pilot calls from bad spots.
