Been seeing a fair bit of updated coaching content and hand breakdowns lately, and a lot of it is leaning the same way. Less fancy stuff for the sake of it, tighter opens from early spots, more disciplined folds when the action gets big, and heaps of talk about using smaller flop bets on dry boards instead of trying to blast every pot.
A few of the common points doing the rounds right now:
Open a bit more carefully from up front, defend late position with a plan instead of just clicking call, 3-bet more selectively from the blinds, and stop talking yourself into hero calls just because blockers look pretty. Also seems like more coaches are saying population at low and mid stakes still overcalls in some spots and under-bluffs in others, so the old spewy "put them to the test" stuff isn't always doing you any favours.
For live games, the chat I've heard is pretty similar but even more straightforward. Value bet hard, don't slowplay too much, and give the random older bloke at the table credit when he suddenly wakes up on the river... boring maybe, but probably saves a stack or two.
Just thought it was worth chucking up here because the messaging feels more consistent than it did a year or two ago. Anyone else noticed the same trend, or changed anything in their own game recently because of it?
