Been playing around with a way simpler style lately and tbh it’s doing way more for me than all the flashy stuff I used to try. Folding more junk preflop, not getting cute out of position, and easing off the random hero calls... sounds dead boring, yeah, but I’m leaking way less. Funny how that works.
The bit I’m sort of reviewing here is really just the basic solid approach everyone bangs on about. Play tighter, value bet properly, watch position, don’t bluff just because you’re bored. I used to think that was a bit too safe and you had to be making big reads every second hand to get anywhere. Nah. Feels like I was just punting chips for no reason half the time.
Still curious though — is this just the normal stage where you clean up your game a bit before learning the trickier stuff? Or do heaps of decent players pretty much stick to the simple stuff most of the time and only chuck in the fancy plays now and then?
Keen to hear what actually made the biggest difference for you lot. Was it hand selection, bankroll discipline, reading ranges better, or something else completely? Wouldn’t mind hearing if there was one small change where you went “right, that actually works” because I reckon I’m only just figuring this out now.
