question What made the biggest difference to your poker game at the small stakes?

Been having a few goes at low-stakes poker lately and I keep doing the same dumb stuff... calling too wide, getting stubborn after the flop, then wondering where the chips went. Feels like I know the basics, but once I’m in a hand I start talking myself into rubbish plays.

So for the people here who actually got decent at it, what was the first thing that properly clicked for you? Starting hand selection, position, folding more, sizing bets, not chasing when you’re behind... whatever it was. Keen for the sort of advice that helps at the smaller stakes, not fancy high-roller gear.

If you’ve got any simple rules you stick to, chuck them in. Even stuff like “stop limping with junk” or “just muck it and move on, mate” would probably help me more than another session of donating buy-ins on a Sunday arvo.

First thing that clicked for me was position. I used to see two sort of playable cards and convince myself I could make it work from anywhere, then spend the whole hand guessing. Once I started binning the marginal stuff from early spots, the messy decisions dropped heaps. You mostly on the cheap tourneys or little cash tables? changes a bit.
