Been tweaking my cash game stuff again and the spot that keeps bugging me is blind defence. Not the basic obvious ones, I mean those annoying middling hands where it looks like a peel, then you end up out of position in a bloated pot wondering why you bothered... especially against late opens from players who aren’t complete maniacs but still nick heaps of pots.
I’ve played enough over the years to know folding too much is a leak, but I also reckon a lot of punters talk themselves into hero calls and “standard” defends that are just lighting money on fire. Live games at the pub or casino feel totally different to online too. Some live regs open way too wide and give up if they miss, easy enough. Then you get the sticky blokes who make every second pair hand a pain in the arse and suddenly defending suited junk doesn’t feel so clever.
So what are you lot doing these days from the small blind and big blind, say around 100bb deep? Are you still defending pretty wide versus cutoff/button opens, or have you tightened right up unless there’s a decent read? Keen to hear how experienced players separate the profitable peels from the bloody hopeful ones.
