question Still leaking chips pre-flop — what would you fix first?

Been trying to tighten up my game a bit and I keep coming back to the same thing... I reckon I bleed chips before the flop more than anywhere else. Bit too keen to see one more hand, calling when I probably should just fold and move on.

For the players here who’ve actually improved, what was the first adjustment that made a real difference? Starting hand selection, position, bet sizing, paying more attention to who’s raising light, something else? I’m not chasing miracle stuff, just the solid basics that stop you doing bloody silly things every session.

Mainly talking hold’em, online and low-stakes live, if that changes the answer. If you’ve got one simple rule you wish you drilled into your head earlier, chuck it in here. Keen to hear what works for regular punters, not just textbook gear.

100% this. The thing that cleaned my game up quickest was a dead simple rule: if I’m out of position and already trying to justify the call in my head, I just muck it. Saved me heaps of those “maybe this one” hands that turn into expensive guessing on later streets.
