Been giving my low-stakes game a proper crack lately, mostly online with the odd pub-style cash game, and I changed a few little habits over the last couple of weeks. Nothing fancy or wizard-level, just trying to stop doing dumb stuff when I get bored and start punting for no reason.
The three things that seemed to help most were folding a lot more rubbish from early position, not chasing every draw like a drongo, and slowing down on the river instead of insta-calling because I talked myself into some heroic read. Sounds basic as, I know, but it actually settled my whole game down heaps.
Biggest difference for me was probably position. Once I stopped getting sticky from bad spots, the rest felt easier... less guessing, less spew, and when I did bet hard people seemed to give me a bit more credit. Also started noticing how often I was paying off obvious value bets before. Bloody annoying when you realise it, but good to catch it I guess.
I am curious though, for anyone who has gone from break-even-ish to actually decent, what was the thing that properly moved the needle for you? Was it hand selection, bankroll stuff, reading bet sizes, bluffing less, bluffing more? Keen to hear what actually held up for you and what turned out to be a waste of time.
