question Most racing advice is cooked — what actually works for you?

Bit of a rant, but a lot of the punting advice floating around now is absolute rubbish. Half the so-called experts are just tipping the obvious fave after the price is gone, or posting some miracle multi that looks good for five seconds then falls over in race 2. I've paid for a couple of subs, followed a few pages, read the big previews... heaps of it feels like noise.

The stuff I rate now is pretty boring compared to the flashy tipster junk. Track pattern, barrier, tempo, whether the horse is actually suited at the trip, and late market moves that make sense... that gets me a lot further than some bloke on socials yelling best of the day. Sectionals help too, especially when a run looks plain on paper but the thing was posted wide and still stuck on okay.

What I don't rate at all is blindly following stable whispers. Sometimes it's gold, most times it's just pub chat dressed up as inside mail. Same with services that bang on about strike rate but stay very quiet about the prices. Backing a stack of shorties and calling yourself a wizard is a bit rich, mate.

Keen to hear what other punters actually use. Form guide only? Speed maps? Ratings? Or do you reckon the best move is just sticking to a couple of tracks and ignoring half the Saturday arvo carry-on?

yeah reckon you're on the money. I stopped paying attention to loud tipsters ages ago. Replay notes are way more useful for me than a shiny best bet post, especially when a run looked ordinary on paper but the horse never got clear. I mostly stick to a small set of meetings now too, way less noise and I actually remember which riders suit which setups.

My big one is brutal race selection. Most punters talk form, then still bet in every messy field like they have to be involved. You don't. If the pace map is a guess and half the field is first-up or changing distance, bin it and wait. I also mark down anything flattered by a soft lead last start, people keep backing those runners like the same race is happening twice.
