Been having a dabble on the nags lately and I feel like half the time I’m just guessing off the form guide and hoping for the best 😅 Keen to know what you lot actually check before having a punt. Barrier? Jockey? Track condition? Last few runs? Market moves right before jump?
I keep hearing different stuff from different mates. One bloke swears by wet track specialists, another only backs certain stables, and my old man reckons if it drifts late just leave it alone... no idea who’s full of it lol.
If you’ve got a simple way of narrowing a race down, chuck it in here. Not after miracle picks or anything, just trying to get a bit less useless on a Saturday arvo.

Nah, I reckon the late drift rule is mostly pub wisdom. A horse can ease and still be the right one if the race shape suits it. First thing I do is work out who crosses, who gets buried, who'll be chasing three wide... if I can't picture the run I leave it alone.

People overrate barrier and jockey a fair bit. Track condition and how the race is likely to be run tell me more. Barrier on its own means very little if the horse is a slow beginner, and I don't put heaps on rider changes unless it's obvious the new one will use it differently.
