I do alright on footy most weeks but with the races I still feel like I’m half just chucking one on and hoping for the best lol. I’ll look at the form a bit, maybe the barrier, maybe who’s riding, then the market moves and next minute I’ve talked myself into 3 different horses.
So what do you lot actually look at first when you’re trying to have a decent crack? Track condition? Distance? sectionals? jockey/trainer combo? I reckon I get a bit lost trying to look at everything at once.
Not really after miracle roughies or anything, more just a solid way to narrow a race down without doing my head in every Saturday arvo. If you’ve got a simple routine or a couple things you swear by, keen to hear it mate.

First thing for me is whether the horse is actually suited by the trip and setup, before I even care about the jockey. Then I look at where it settles and if the race looks like it'll be run to suit. If I can't picture the run in my head pretty quick, I leave it alone. Saves a lot of dumb bets, mate.

I got a lot better once I stopped trying to solve every race on the card. The market can send you in circles, especially late, so now I watch a replay or two and look for one thing only: did the run have an excuse or was it just plain flat. Half the time the answer is obvious when you strip all the noise out.

my lazy filter is brutal lol. if it's up in grade, weird distance, and drawn out, I'm usually gone straight away. I pass heaps more than I bet now and weirdly that helped more than any magic form stat.
