question Wet tracks have changed the way I read a meeting lately

Anyone else feel like the last few weeks have made the old form-guide routine a bit useless? Between late scratchings, track downgrades and rails going out, I keep ending up with a completely different shortlist by the arvo. Feels like plenty of punters are binning the early prices and waiting right up near jump now.

I was reading a bit of chatter this morning and heaps of it was about sectionals, map changes and watching the market late instead of getting too cute the night before. Fair enough too. Had one on Saturday that looked a ripper on paper, then the track copped more rain, speed collapsed and the whole race shape went out the window.

Curious what everyone is leaning on most at the moment. Are you trusting late money, track pattern, jockey swaps, stable mail... or just sticking to your own ratings and not overthinking it? Keen to hear what’s actually holding up lately because some meetings have been bloody weird.

If you’ve changed the way you pick them this season, chuck it in here. Would be good to see what other punters are using now that conditions seem to be shifting every five minutes.

Yep, this bit especially. I used to lock one in the night before and now half the time I bin it after seeing how the first race is run. reckon the bigger change for me is admitting some meetings just aren't worth playing. You blokes skipping more races now or still having a crack if you've already done the form?

What changed for me was splitting the form work from the actual bet. I still go through it early, but I only take an early price if the race shape looks pretty stable. Usually I keep it to two runners, then wait for scratchings, watch for any obvious pattern, and use the late market as a filter not a signal. Cut out a lot of dumb plays doing it that way.

Same idea here. I started making a quick dry version and wet version of the race map before I back anything. Doesn't need to be fancy, just who gets the soft run if the track changes and who probably hates it. Makes those rail moves a lot less painful because you're adjusting, not starting over.

I'm still a bit wary of leaning too hard on late money, mate. Seen heaps of moves lately that look super sharp and then they're cooked before the turn, so sometimes it feels like everyone is chasing the same stable whisper. Anyone here actually keep notes on the drifters that still run well or is that getting too cute?
