question What do you lot check first in the form guide?

Curious how everyone here sizes up a race before having a crack. Do you start with recent runs, barrier, jockey, track condition, speed map, market moves... or something else?

I know a few blokes who only care about wet track stats, and another mate pretty much backs anything if the stable is flying that week. I usually end up looking at a few things together, but half the time I reckon the first filter matters most. Keen to hear what people here actually trust when sorting the field, especially for the Saturday arvo meetings.

If you've got a simple way of narrowing it down without disappearing into a wall of numbers, chuck it in. Would be good to see how other punters read a race.

Saturday arvo I do a rough speed map first and cross a bunch out straight away. If one needs every gap to open from a sticky draw, I'm usually out before I even start arguing with myself about the form.

If you go map first, how do you treat the first-up ones that land in the run but haven't shown much fresh before? That's the spot I still get wrong, because late money sucks me back in way too often.
