question Bankroll ladders on pokies... clever or just busywork?

Been trying to be a bit less random with my spins lately instead of just chucking the same amount on till I'm cooked. Had a crack at a few different bankroll setups over the last couple of weeks - flat bets, little step-ups after a decent hit, and one where I split the session into mini chunks and only bumped the bet if I was still in front.

Flat bets felt the least painful, ngl. Bit boring maybe, but I stayed alive longer and didn't nuke the balance in one bad patch. The step-up one sounded smart in my head, then the reels went dry and it got bloody annoying pretty quick. The mini-chunk idea was probably the one I liked most... not because it won more, just felt a bit more under control and stopped me punting like a goose in the arvo.

I'm not expecting some miracle system here, just wondering if these bet-sizing routines actually help with discipline or if they're mostly there to make us feel organised while the game does its own thing anyway. What do you lot reckon? Do you stick to one amount the whole session, move up when you're ahead, drop back after losses, set hard stop points... any approach that's actually felt useful?

Yeah I reckon that's the bit that actually helps. Not some secret sauce, just a brake pedal. I do similar where if one chunk is gone, that's it, no sneaky top-up in the same session. If I don't force that rule I start clicking faster and talking myself into rubbish.

flat bets are the only thing I've ever kept going without drifting off script. soon as I raise it after a nice hit, my brain goes straight into that 'it's only winnings' mode and suddenly every spin seems justified. that's normally where the balance vanishes for me.

One thing I'm curious about: when you break the session into blocks, do you stay on the same pokie for that whole block or swap if it feels dead? That's the part that usually messes me up a bit, mate, because once I start hopping around the routine sort of stops being a routine.
