question Flat bets beat every clever ladder system I've tried

Been mucking around with different bankroll approaches on pokies for ages now and Im pretty settled on one thing: most of the fancy stuff is rubbish. Doubling after a bad run, bumping the bet every time a bonus drops, chasing a target before you leave the chair... sounds clever for about 20 minutes, then the game reminds you it doesnt care what little system you wrote in your notes app.

I gave the ladder-up style a proper crack a while back because I thought maybe Id been too stubborn with flat spins. Nah. All it did was make the rough patches feel heaps worse. You cop a dead stretch, increase the spin size trying to "get back in front", then suddenly a casual arvo session turns into a proper bankroll drain. Bloody annoying way to burn through money.

Only thing that actually feels sane to me now is setting a spend, picking a spin size that wont wreck it in ten minutes, and sticking to it unless Im way up and just having a cheeky go with profit. Not glamorous, not genius, just less stupid. Same with stop-loss and stop-win numbers boring, yeah, but they save you from doing dumb punter things when the machine goes ice cold or when you get too cocky after a decent hit.

Curious what everyone else reckons though. Anyone here genuinely had one of those progression setups work for longer than a lucky session or two? Or have most of you ended up back on the simple stuff as well?

Yep. Half the damage is people acting like a top-up somehow resets the whole thing. If you keep feeding it, even flat spins turn into a fake little system, mate.

I don't fully agree that flat only is always the answer tbh. Sometimes I start really low on a volatile game, then edge it up a notch if I like the feel of it and it's not chewing instantly. Not after losses, just after a bit of a read. Anyone else do that or am I just talking myself into it?

What helped me was working out spin count first, not just balance. I realised the same bet size can feel fine on one game and be way too aggressive on another, especially the high-volatility stuff. Since I started picking a level based on how long I want the session to last, I've had way fewer dumb mid-session changes.

This is the bit I never trust myself with. The machine doesn't know which spins are profit, and for me that little celebration mode is exactly where I leak the win back. Do you have an actual cutoff for those bigger spins or is it more just vibes?

One thing that's saved me a few times: only load a small chunk, and if it's gone but I'm still keen, I make myself get up and walk off for a minute before doing anything else. Sounds silly but that tiny break stops the chase brain kicking in.

Same here on the fancy methods not lasting. Weirdly the biggest improvement for me was a timer, not changing the bet pattern. If I stay on too long I start doing bloody stupid clicks and convincing myself a bonus is due, so shorter sessions keep me a lot more under control.
