Been seeing a fair bit lately about punters going back to the old school price-first way of betting, especially with AFL and NRL openers. Feels like the chat has shifted a bit from boosted multis and same game mess into just grabbing a number when the bookies hang one that looks off. Not exactly new, but it's definitely getting more airtime again.
I've played around with that style for years and the funny part is it never looks exciting from the outside. You're not trying to be a hero and pick every winner, you're just taking odds that are better than they should be and living with a lot of ugly short-term swings. That bit gets lost when people talk about it like it's some magic system. Half the battle is having your own prices, or at least a solid read on where the market should settle, then getting on before it moves. If you're taking the same line 10 minutes before kickoff after the whole market's already smashed it... bit late, mate.
What I'm curious about now is whether more of you are actually leaning into this again with how fast books react these days. Are you still finding decent spots in early markets, or has it turned into a grind unless you've got proper models running? Keen to hear what sports people are using it on too, because I reckon the smaller comps and player props still throw up the best chances if you've got the patience for it.
