question Randwick to Morphettville — what do you trust most before a bet?

Keen to hear how everyone here goes about finding a decent angle on the local meetings. Not talking miracle picks or anything, just the stuff you actually lean on when you're having a look at a race.

For me it usually starts with track condition and map, then I end up going down a rabbit hole with barrier, jockey switch, whether the horse is second-up, if the stable has a good record at that trip... then the market moves and suddenly I'm rethinking the whole thing 10 mins before jump.

Do you lot mostly follow form guides, speed maps, sectional times, yard mail, late drift/firmers, or just keep it simple and stick to a couple of rules? Also curious if people treat Saturday metro races heaps differently to provincials and midweeks, because I reckon I do.

If you've got any solid habits that help cut through the noise, chuck them in. Even stuff like trainers you rate first-up, tracks where leaders are gold, or little signs you avoid completely would be good to hear.

That bit is too real. I reckon the best filter is culling half the field before you get fancy with anything else - if they haven't already shown they can run the trip properly or they're coming through thin maiden form, out they go. After that I'm mostly looking for one thing: can they handle the race shape they're about to get, not the ideal one on paper.
