Had a bit of a muck around this week trying a few different staking routines on pokies, mostly just to see how the session felt rather than expecting magic. Started with flat spins, then tried the classic double-up-after-a-loss thing, then a softer version where I only nudged it up a little instead of going full send.
Flat spins were easily the least stressful. Bit boring maybe, but my balance lasted heaps longer and I wasn’t sitting there doing maths every second spin like a drongo. The double-up one was weird... looks clever for about 10 minutes, then you cop a rough patch and suddenly the next spin size looks bloody silly. I can see why people get sucked into it though, because when it does recover quick you feel like a genius for a minute.
The gentler progression actually felt more playable to me. Not saying it changed the result in some huge way, just felt less cooked than chasing losses hard. I also tried bumping the stake after a decent hit instead of after losses, and ngl that was probably the most fun out of the lot, even if it was still pretty swingy.
I reckon none of this changes the fact pokies are gonna do what pokies do, but some approaches definitely change how long you last and how tilted you get. Anyone here found a setup that feels decent without turning the session into a spreadsheet? Keen to hear what people actually stick with, or if most of you just keep it simple and chuck the same amount on every spin.
